We use the cataloguing system developed by Michael Schmidt.  The numbering system is his and used in his book (make avaialble for sale).  Schmidt is the leading researcher of slabs and author of (book).

 

Regular Production Coins
1986-1989 PCGS 1 Small size "Rattler"
1989 PCGS 2 Thick slab in slab
1989 PCGS 3 Doilie
1990-1995 PCGS 4 Green label, perforated, dot matrix print
1995-1998 PCGS 5 Green label, die cut, laser printer
1998 PCGS 6 First blue label holder; no Coin/Series numbers
1999-2002 PCGS 7 and PCGS 8 Series added for most (7) but not bullion and commems (8)
2002-2004 PCGS 12 and PCGS 13 Barcode moved to front.
2004-2005 (Oct) PCGS 15 New large (non-PNG) hologram
(Nov) 2005-date PCGS 18 Series and coin numbers removed.
Special Purpose Slabs
199_-199_ PCGS 9 Oversize Regency slab.
2004-date PCGS 14 Multi-coin holder.
